With just one week until the first anniversary of Target 155, Melbourne’s water authorities are calling for all Melburnians to refocus and rein in their water use this week, to re-instate the simple water-saving behaviours that have paved the way for the 155 Target to be attained for much of the last year. -

Despite much of Melbourne still being wet and soggy from this week’s rain, Melbourne’s water use has crept up this week, hinting that many Melburnians are continuing to water their garden during this unseasonably wet period. Last week we were using an average of 144 litres per person a day, up 6 litres from the week before.

Melburnians are continuing to bank their water savings, using an average of 138 litres a day over the last week. The savings are equivalent to every Melburnian using a full bucket less of water every day (as compared to this time last year); and even greater savings are possible given this week’s welcome rain.

Melbourne’s latest weekly average water usage figure is 141 litres per person per day, under the Target of less than 155 litres per person per day. This is a slight rise from the 138 litres per person recorded during the last week of Winter and comes despite some recent rain over most of the city. -
